Women's retirement confidence has been shaken by the Great Recession. Historically, women's retirement confidence has lagged behind men’s in part due to the gender pay gap and time out of the workforce for parenting and caregiving. Now, women's retirement confidence is even lower.

Women & Retirement Current Outlook & New Opportunities illustrates the challenges faced by women. Based on a survey of workers, the research report reveals how women's current attitudes, actions, and inactions regarding retirement savings could unwittingly intensify their retirement-related risks. The report identifies new outreach opportunities for engaging, educating, and empowering women to gain control over their financial future. It also makes recommendations for women, retirement industry outreach initiatives, and changes in public policy for improving their retirement security.

The report is based on findings from the 11th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey which included more than 3,500 workers. It was conducted between December 2009 and January 2010.
