The Changing Face of Retirement: The Workplace Perspective
The future of retirement hangs in the balance, especially at this time in history, given the aging of the population and the extreme pressures faced by retirement systems in countries around the world. Decisions that we make today as a global community, comprised of individuals and families, employers, and governments and policymakers, will have a major lasting impact on the well-being of future generations of retirees in the decades to come.
The Changing Face of Retirement: The Workplace Perspective examines factors shaping the kind of retirement plans employers offer, and to what extent their employees value them when considered alongside other workplace benefits such as salary, time off, medical and life insurance. Common themes and keys to success include a strong focus on employee education, plan design, and the transition from work to retirement. The report provides detailed recommendations for policymakers, retirement plan providers, and employers.
The research report is based on a global retirement survey conducted among 8,100 employees in 9 countries including France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States. It also reflects a series of 12 in-depth interviews with employers in countries including Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States. The research was a collaboration between Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies and Aegon.
