Most American workers and their prospects for a comfortable retirement have suffered from the Great Recession. Workers aged 50 and older, or “pre-retirees,” were among the hardest hit. Unlike younger workers, pre-retirees have less time for their retirement accounts to recover from market losses before they reach retirement age.
In the Summer 2009 edition of The ASPPA Journal, Catherine Collinson shares research findings from Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies and outlines ways to help pre-retirees improve their prospects.
