Retirement plans are increasingly important to American workers. As the pace of economic recovery from the Great Recession continues to be sluggish, workers are rethinking retirement and what that will mean to them. While more workers this year expect their own financial situation will get better compared to last year, there was also a rise in people expecting that the U.S. economy will get worse.

The 13th Annual Transamerica Retirement Survey of Workers provides an in-depth examination of the current state of retirement preparedness among workers. It includes a multi-year trend analysis and demographic segmentation analysis by employer size, household income, age, gender, educational attainment, and race/ethnicity.

The research report is based on findings of a survey of more than 3,600 workers conducted in 2012.
